The Sydney market
people lived in Greater Sydney at 30 June 2025. That’s about one in five Australians.
ABS Regional population, 2024-25new residents in 2024-25. That’s about 206 more people every single day.
ABS Regional population, 2024-25more trading businesses in NSW in 2025-26, the biggest rise of any state or territory.
ABS Counts of Australian Businessesof Greater Sydney households use a language other than English at home.
ABS 2021 CensusSydney is Australia’s biggest city. Greater Sydney had 5,638,830 residents at 30 June 2025, and it grew by 75,230 people in a single year. That’s a lot of people searching for a plumber, a dentist, a lawyer or a new pair of runners. It’s also a lot of businesses fighting to be the one they click.
The number of businesses keeps climbing too. New South Wales added 26,057 actively trading businesses in 2025-26, the largest net increase of any state or territory. More businesses means more advertisers in the same auction. In Google Ads, more bidders usually means a higher cost per click, especially in high-value categories like legal, finance, health, property and trades.
Sydney is also spread out and split up. Greater Sydney runs from the Central Coast down to Macarthur and out to the Blue Mountains. The harbour, the bridges, the tolls and the traffic all shape who will actually use your business. A customer in Cronulla probably won’t drive to Hornsby for a haircut. If your ads show to both, you pay for clicks that were never going to become customers.
Then there’s language. In the 2021 Census, 42% of Greater Sydney households used a language other than English at home. Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Vietnamese and Hindi were the most common. If you only advertise in English, you could be missing a big slice of your market. Your competitors might not be.
None of this means Google Ads doesn’t work in Sydney. It works very well. It just punishes lazy accounts faster than most markets. Tight targeting, sharp ads, fast landing pages and proper tracking are what separate the businesses that profit from the ones paying for everyone else’s clicks.
A quick word on cost. Nobody publishes a trustworthy “average Sydney cost per click”, so be wary of anyone who quotes one. Costs depend on your industry, suburbs, ads and Quality Score. We use published industry benchmarks as a starting point, then your own account data as soon as we have it.

Proof, not promises
Every agency says it gets results. Here’s what you can check for yourself before you spend a cent.

Google only gives Partner status to agencies that meet its standards for ad spend, account performance and certified staff. Our listing is public, so you don’t have to take our word for it. Check it in Google’s Partners directory.
Our team holds Google Ads certifications across the campaign types that drive leads and sales, and we’re a Shopify Partner for online stores.
From price-driven online stores to industrial B2B groups with long sales cycles. Our director has also worked with brands including Canon, Uniqlo, Benefit Cosmetics and Asiana Airlines.
You see the tracking, the leads and the sales before you pay us a cent in management fees. If we haven’t earned month two, you walk away with your account and all your data. See all our case studies.
What’s included
Most Sydney businesses that call us have been burnt before. Big retainers, long contracts, a junior account manager and a monthly report full of impressions. Here’s how we do it instead.
There are two costs. Your ad spend goes straight to Google on your own billing, so you can see every dollar. Our management fee is quoted up front, in writing, after your audit, and it’s based on the work your account needs. Your first month of management is free. After that, it’s month to month.
Every month you get a short report and a review call. It shows what you spent, the leads or sales it brought in, what each one cost and what we’re changing next. No 20-page decks full of impressions. If a campaign isn’t pulling its weight, we’ll tell you straight and move the money.
Free first month
The first month is where we earn your trust. Here’s exactly what happens, week by week, so there are no surprises.
A short call to learn your margins, your best customers and the areas you serve. Then we audit your account, website and tracking, and show you where the money is leaking.
We set up and test conversion tracking for calls, forms, bookings and sales. We link Google Analytics, check consent settings and make sure every lead is counted once.
Campaigns rebuilt around your services and Sydney regions. Tighter keywords, negatives, fresh ads, sitelinks, and call and location assets. For online stores, a clean Merchant Center feed.
We review search terms, move budget to what converts, adjust bids and ad schedules, and flag landing page issues that hold back conversions.
A plain-English review of cost per lead or sale, what we changed and what’s next. Then you decide. Stay month to month, or walk away with your account and all your data.
The free month covers our management fee. You pay Google directly for your ad spend. We confirm the terms in writing before we start.

Costs by industry
Every industry plays a different game in Sydney. Pick yours to see a benchmark cost per click, what your monthly budget might buy and how we’d approach it. Drag the slider to try your own budget.
Sydney shoppers compare prices across every store on the page, often on their phone and often in the same minute. Winning here is less about bidding more and more about a clean product feed, sharp prices and campaigns managed around profit, not just revenue. If you offer fast delivery across Sydney or click and collect, that belongs in your ads.
Plumbers, electricians, builders, roofers, landscapers and cleaners. Sydney homeowners search when something breaks or when they’re ready to renovate, and they call the first business that looks local and available. Calls are king, so call tracking isn’t optional. Neither is tight targeting. There’s no point paying for a click from Penrith if your van lives in Cronulla.
Health searches are local and built on trust. People want a clinic near home or work, with appointments soon and clear pricing. Ads for regulated health services must also follow Ahpra’s advertising rules, which means no testimonials about clinical care and no misleading claims. We write ads that stay inside the rules and still stand out.
Legal is one of the most expensive categories in Google Ads, and Sydney is packed with firms chasing the same searches. At these prices, every wasted click hurts. We focus on high-intent searches, cut research-only terms, and track every call and enquiry through to a real matter. NSW also has specific rules on how personal injury legal services can be advertised, so ad copy needs care.
Sydney is Australia’s financial capital, and finance searches attract big, well-funded advertisers. The benchmark click looks cheap, but conversion rates are low, so the real cost per lead can climb fast. The winners use tight, high-intent keywords, landing pages with a clear next step and lead quality feedback from the CRM. Google also applies extra rules to financial services ads, and every claim has to be accurate.
B2B buyers search for specific products, specs and suppliers, then take weeks or months to decide. A form fill is only the start. We connect Google Ads to your CRM so Google learns which clicks became qualified leads and won deals, and we bid for more of those, not for students and tyre-kickers.
In Sydney property, the valuable lead is usually the seller, not the browser. Buyer searches are cheap and endless. Searches for appraisals and selling agents in your suburbs are where the money is. We build campaigns around appraisal requests and listing leads, and keep them tied to the suburbs you actually sell in.
Sydney has a huge education market, from school tutoring and short courses to RTOs and colleges. Searches spike around term dates, exam season and intakes. We plan budgets around your intake calendar, speak to parents, students and employers differently, and use ads in community languages where they help.
Benchmarks are 2026 US search medians by industry from WordStream by LocaliQ, converted to Australian dollars at A$1 = US$0.7032 (RBA), the same method as our Google Ads calculator. The explorer divides your budget by the cost per click, then applies the conversion rate. Sydney costs can run higher or lower depending on your suburbs, ads and Quality Score, so treat these numbers as a starting point, not a quote.
Sydney regions
Greater Sydney stretches from the Central Coast to Macarthur and out to the Blue Mountains. Each area has its own mix of customers, businesses and competition, and your campaigns should reflect that. Pick a region to see how we’d approach it.
Office workers, professionals and businesses. Searches peak on weekdays, and many happen on a phone between meetings.
Tight radius targeting, weekday ad schedules, and ads that name the exact location, station or building.
Some of the highest click costs in the city, especially for legal, finance and B2B services.
Dense, established suburbs from Bondi and Randwick to Double Bay, with busy local shopping strips.
Quality cues, local landmarks in ad copy, and strong reviews on your Google Business Profile.
Traffic and parking shape behaviour. People want providers close by, so keep targeting tight.
Busy high streets, independent retail and hospitality, and plenty of renovations in older homes.
Suburb-level ads, renovation and trades campaigns, and offers that feel local.
Small suburbs sit close together. Overlapping radius targets can double up your spend.
Established family homes from Chatswood to Wahroonga, with steady demand for education, health and home services.
Family-focused messages, school-term timing for tutoring and activities, and trust signals on landing pages.
Chatswood is a major hub in its own right. Give it its own ad groups rather than lumping it in.
A peninsula from Manly to Palm Beach, where many locals prefer businesses that are actually on the Beaches.
Beaches-only targeting and genuinely local messaging, with the suburb in the ad.
Limited road access makes it a hard sell for providers outside the area. Don’t pay to pull Beaches clicks into the CBD.
Fast-growing new estates. Box Hill and Nelson grew by about 3,900 people in 2024-25, one of the biggest rises of any area in NSW.
New-home services like landscaping, blinds, flooring, solar and childcare, targeted to estates as they fill up.
New suburbs and estates change quickly, so review location targets and search terms often.
Sydney’s second CBD and a huge, diverse population, with many languages spoken at home.
Separate Parramatta campaigns, ads in community languages where they fit, and location assets for each site.
Lumping Western Sydney in with the CBD hides very different costs and conversion rates.
Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden and new growth areas like Austral and Greendale, which grew by 16% in 2024-25.
Family, trade and new-home services, value-led offers and call-first ads.
Distances inside the region are big. A radius that looks small on a map can still mean an hour’s drive.
Close-knit communities from Hurstville to Cronulla, where many locals prefer to keep services local.
Shire-specific targeting and ads that mention the suburb or area by name.
Bridges and traffic make it hard to serve across the Georges River. Keep your service area honest.
Counted as part of Greater Sydney by the ABS, but a separate market in practice, from Gosford to The Entrance.
Its own campaign, its own budget and ads that feel local to the Coast.
Broad “Sydney” targeting can pull in Coast searchers who will never drive to Parramatta, and the reverse.
Shopping and CRM
Two of the most powerful parts of Google Ads are also two of the most neglected. Here’s how we use them.
Example only. An illustration of a Shopping ad, not a real listing.
Shopping ads show your product, price and store name right on the results page, before anyone clicks. For many online stores they bring in more Google Ads sales than anything else. They run on your product feed in Google Merchant Center, so the feed is the campaign. A messy feed means disapproved products, wrong prices and ads showing for the wrong searches.
We clean up titles so they match how people search, fix images and product IDs like GTINs, set up shipping and returns so they show in your listings, and switch on free listings too. Then we structure Shopping and Performance Max around margin, so your most profitable products get the budget. On Shopify, we connect your feed through the Google and YouTube app and keep it healthy.
Qualified leads and won deals flow back into Google Ads, so bidding chases pipeline, not form fills.
Illustrative numbers only.
For B2B, a form fill isn’t a sale. If Google only sees form fills, it goes looking for more form fills, including students, job seekers and suppliers trying to sell to you. The fix is to send real outcomes back into Google Ads.
We connect your CRM, like HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive or Zoho, and set up enhanced conversions for leads. When a lead is qualified or a deal is won, Google Ads hears about it. Over time, bidding shifts towards the searches that bring in real pipeline, and you can finally see cost per qualified lead and cost per won deal for every campaign.
Playbook
These are moves we make in almost every Sydney account. Feel free to steal them.
Draw your targeting around how far customers will really travel, or how far you’ll send a van. In Sydney, water, bridges, tolls and traffic matter more than kilometres.
Set your location option to people in or regularly in your area. Otherwise you can pay for clicks from people elsewhere who are just interested in Sydney. The exception is tourism and hospitality, where visitors are the market.
Google now matches search ads mostly by the language of the search and the language of your ad, and it’s removing the old language setting from Search campaigns. To reach Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Vietnamese or Hindi speakers, write ads in that language, ideally with a matching landing page.
Budgets should move with demand: EOFY in June, spring renovations, Black Friday, Christmas and Boxing Day for retail, and big events like Mardi Gras and Vivid Sydney for hospitality. Set seasonal budgets before the rush, not halfway through it.
If leads from Parramatta cost less than leads from the CBD, one combined campaign hides it. Separate campaigns by region, so the budget goes where it earns the most.
For service businesses, a missed call is a paid lead thrown away. Run call ads only during the hours you actually answer, and check missed calls in your call reports.
Competitors can bid on your business name. A low-cost brand campaign keeps you on top for your own name. If a competitor uses your trademark in their ad text, Google has a complaint process.
Many local searches happen on a phone. A fast page, a tap-to-call button, the suburb in the headline and a short form will often do more for your cost per lead than any bid change.

FAQs
Straight answers to the questions Sydney business owners ask us most. Can’t see yours? Call +61 479 125 979.
There are two costs: your ad spend, paid straight to Google, and our management fee. Ad spend depends on your industry, the areas you target and your goals. Click costs can be high in busy Sydney categories because so many businesses compete for the same searches. Try the industry explorer on this page or our Google Ads calculator for a rough idea, then we’ll recommend a realistic budget after your audit.
There’s no fixed minimum. Your budget needs to be big enough to get meaningful data in the areas you target. If it’s too thin, we’ll tell you honestly and suggest narrowing your targeting rather than spreading it across all of Sydney.
We manage your Google Ads account free for the first month. That covers the audit, tracking setup, campaign build or clean-up and ongoing optimisation. You pay Google directly for your ad spend. We confirm the terms in writing before we start.
No. We work month to month. If you stop, you keep your account, campaigns and data.
No. We’re based in Western Australia and manage Google Ads for businesses across Australia. Google Ads is managed online, so distance doesn’t limit the work. WA is two to three hours behind Sydney, depending on daylight saving, so we book calls around your business hours.
Yes. Anahaw Media is a Google Partner, and our team holds Google Ads certifications in Search, Display and Shopping. Our listing is public in Google’s Partners directory.
Yes, and that’s usually the best option. We audit what’s there, keep what’s working and fix what isn’t, so you don’t lose your account history.
Yes. We can build campaigns with ads in languages like Mandarin, Arabic, Vietnamese and more, working with your team or a translator on the copy and landing pages. Google matches search ads largely by the language of the search and the language of your ad, so the ad itself needs to be in that language.
Yes. We set up and manage Merchant Center feeds, Shopping campaigns and Performance Max for Shopify, WooCommerce and other platforms. We’re a Shopify Partner too.
Yes. For B2B lead generation we connect Google Ads with CRMs like HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and Zoho, so qualified leads and won deals flow back into Google Ads as conversions.
Search campaigns often start bringing in calls and enquiries within the first week or two after launch. Results usually keep improving over the first two to three months as we gather data and cut waste. You’ll see exactly how it’s going during your free first month.
