Why healthcare marketing is different

Healthcare advertising is tightly regulated, and patients choose carefully. Good marketing builds trust first and never overpromises.

01

The rules are strict

Section 133 of the National Law limits what you can say in advertising, including a ban on testimonials about clinical care.

02

Most searches are local

Patients look for a practitioner near them, often on their phone. Google Maps and your Business Profile carry a lot of weight.

03

Trust comes before booking

People want to know who they will see, what to expect and what it costs before they book.

04

Bookings are the real goal

Clicks and calls only matter if they turn into booked appointments. We track right through to the booking.

Sound familiar?

Tap the problems you recognise. Your starting plan builds as you go, with the services that fit.

The channels that work for clinics and practices

Most practices grow from a strong local presence, focused paid search and a website that makes booking easy. Pick a channel to see how we run it.

Get found by patients near you

Most healthcare searches are local. We make sure your practice shows up in Google Maps and local results for the services you actually offer.

The playbook

The healthcare marketing playbook

How clinics and practices grow bookings the right way. Practical steps you can check against your own marketing.

The Anahaw Media team
Planned and run by senior people, not handed to juniors.

01Get your Google Business Profile right

For most practices, the Business Profile is the most important marketing asset you have. It is often the first thing a patient sees, and it decides whether you appear on Google Maps.

  • Choose the most accurate primary category, and add relevant secondary ones.
  • Keep your hours, phone number and address exactly the same as on your website.
  • Add real photos of your clinic, team and rooms.
  • List your services clearly, and keep them up to date.

If you have more than one location, each one needs its own profile and its own page on your website.

02Build a page for every service

Patients search for specific problems and treatments, not your clinic name. A single services page listing everything rarely ranks. Give each main service its own page that explains what it is, who it helps, what to expect, who provides it and how to book.

Keep claims factual. Describe the service and the process, and avoid promising outcomes. That keeps you within the rules and builds more trust anyway.

03Handle reviews carefully

Reviews on independent platforms like Google help patients choose, and you can invite patients to leave honest feedback. The risk comes when you use reviews in your own advertising. Quoting a review about clinical care on your website, social media or ads can count as a testimonial, which the National Law bans.

Never edit, cherry-pick or reward reviews. Ahpra warns that selectively edited reviews can be misleading.

04Make booking effortless

Every extra step between a search and a booked appointment loses patients. Put a clear booking button on every page, make phone numbers tap to call on mobile, and connect your online booking system so you can see bookings by channel.

If your booking system cannot be tracked directly, we set up the next best thing, such as tracking clicks to the booking page and calls from ads.

05Measure bookings, not clicks

Clicks and impressions only matter if they lead to appointments. Track bookings and calls from every channel, and look at the cost per new patient by service. That shows you where to spend more, where to pull back, and which services have room to grow.

How we would approach it

A clear first 90 days, then steady improvement. No lock-in contract, so we keep earning your business every month.

  1. First 30 days

    Compliance and tracking check

We review your ads and website against the advertising rules, and set up booking and call tracking.

  2. Days 31 to 60

    Fix the foundations

We fix risky content, tune your Google Business Profile and improve your key service pages.

  3. Days 61 to 90

    Grow bookings

We launch or rebuild Google Ads for the services you want to grow, and build your local SEO.

  4. Month 4 onwards

    Steady growth

We keep refining what works and report bookings and costs in AgencyAnalytics.

Rules we work within

The advertising rules for health services

If you advertise a regulated health service, section 133 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law says your advertising must not:

  • be false, misleading or deceptive, or likely to be
  • offer a gift, discount or other inducement without stating the terms and conditions
  • use testimonials or purported testimonials about the service or business
  • create an unreasonable expectation of beneficial treatment
  • directly or indirectly encourage the indiscriminate or unnecessary use of regulated health services.

Ahpra’s guidelines explain these rules in detail. Maximum penalties are $60,000 per offence for an individual and $120,000 for a company, and they now apply in every state, including Western Australia. If you advertise therapeutic goods, the TGA’s advertising rules also apply, and Google has its own healthcare advertising policies.

This is general information, not legal advice. Your own advisers have the final say on compliance.

Questions from clinics and practices

Straight answers to what people ask us most.

Not in your advertising if they mention clinical aspects of your care. Section 133 of the National Law bans testimonials in advertising a regulated health service. Patients can still leave reviews on independent sites, but you should not quote or promote them in your own advertising.

Clinics and practices such as allied health, dental and medical practices. We tell you upfront if a service has advertising rules we need to plan around.

Yes, for most services, but Google has extra policies for healthcare and medicines, and some treatments and products are restricted. We check this before we build campaigns.

Yes. We write clear, plain-English content and flag anything a practitioner should check for clinical accuracy.

Google Ads can bring bookings within weeks. SEO takes longer, usually a few months for early gains, but it keeps working without paying per click.

No. Our marketing services run month to month. If we are not delivering, you can leave.
