What we check

Ten things that decide whether AI tools can use and trust your page

AI answers are built from pages that bots can reach, read, understand and trust. If any of these fail, you’re harder to quote and easier to skip.

AI crawler access

Your robots.txt decides which bots can read your site. We check 14 of them, from Googlebot to ChatGPT’s search bot.

Firewall blocks

Some security settings turn AI crawlers away even when robots.txt says yes. We visit as one to find out.

Content without JavaScript

Most AI crawlers don’t run JavaScript. If your words only appear after scripts load, they may see a blank page.

Indexing rules

A single noindex or nosnippet tag can keep a page out of search results and AI answers.

Structured data

Schema markup tells machines who you are, where you are and what the page is about.

Headings

Clear headings help AI tools split your page into topics and pull out the right answer.

Questions answered

Pages that answer real questions in plain words are the ones AI tools quote.

The basics

A page title, a meta description and HTTPS. Simple, but often missing.

Sitemap and llms.txt

A sitemap helps crawlers find every page. llms.txt is a newer, optional file some AI tools read.

Brand mentions, citations and authority

AI tools recommend brands that other sites vouch for. We score the trust signals on your page: links to your official profiles (and sameAs in your schema), reviews and ratings, awards, accreditations, memberships and press mentions, a named expert or author, and citations of authoritative sources. The biggest factor, what news sites, directories and industry sites say about you, lives off your website, so we flag it for a proper audit.

The bots

The AI bots that matter, and which to allow

Search and answer bots decide whether you show up. Training bots only decide whether your content helps train future models. Blocking those is a business choice, not a visibility one.

Honest limits

What this check can’t tell you

This tool checks whether AI tools can read and understand your page, and scores the brand and authority signals on it. It can’t tell you whether they recommend you. That depends heavily on things outside your website: reviews, mentions in articles and directories, and how often other sites point to you as the answer. No single-page scan can see all of that, which is why our free audit checks it by hand.

Think of it like a building inspection. A pass means the doors are open. It doesn’t mean people will walk in.

Next steps

How to get your site AI-ready

Work through these in order. The first three are quick wins. The last three are where the real gains come from.

  1. Open the doors

Allow search and answer bots in robots.txt, and make sure your firewall isn’t blocking them.

  2. Make your words visible

Make sure your main content is in the page HTML, not loaded later by JavaScript.

  3. Say who you are

Add Organization or LocalBusiness schema with your name, address, phone, logo and social profiles.

  4. Answer real questions

Add an FAQ and use headings that match what people ask. Answer each one in the first sentence.

  5. Get talked about

Earn reviews and mentions on other sites. AI tools trust what others say about you.

  6. Track AI visits

Set up GA4 to show visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity and other AI tools, so you can see it working.
